#MadameHanoi a fusion of #French and #Vietnamese in #Adelaide

Madame Hanoi on North Terrace only opened in Adelaide a few months ago.
A fusion of French and Vietnamese, it is an exotic creation by head chef, Nic Watt.
The food is a Vietnamese/French version of tapas, made for sharing.

The place is decorated with a nod to Indochine.

The mood is enhanced by industrial lighting.

The pressed tin ceiling adds a colonial touch.

It's a pretty casual place to eat where the food is good and the service is lovely.

Knives forged in the Barossa #knives #Barossa #Seppeltsfield #craft

Barry Gardener is another of the JamFactory's craftspeople, forging hand made knives.

He started knife making as a hobby in 1995,
after working on roads for more than 20 years.

He uses a combination of carbon and stainless steel in his knife
blades and a range of Australian timber for the handles
including gidgee, lace she oak, vasticola and mallee.

Barry takes inspiration from Japanese knife makers.

Barry loves to teach others and on the day we visited he was involved in a
workshop demonstrating how it is done and allowing
his pupils to make their own knives.

One of the signs up on Barry's workshop wall are the
words of American rapper, Asher Roth:

"Do your thing. Do it unapologetically. Don't be
discouraged by criticism. You probably already
know what they are going to say. Pay no mind to the
fear of failure. It's far more valuable than success.
Take ownership, take chances, and have fun.
And no matter what don't ever stop doing your thing."

#Juliefleming #Milliner - Beautiful hats at #Seppeltsfield in the #Barossa Valley

Continuing the Barossa theme this week, one of the
craftspeople working at the Jam Factory at Seppeltsfield
is milliner, Julie Fleming.

Julie moved from Melbourne in November 2014 (lucky us)
to live in the beautiful Barossa and set up her workshop at the
Jam Factory.

Julie has been a milliner since 1989, servicing the people of
Melbourne, particularly around the spring carnival and the Melbourne
Cup.   Julie still makes trips to Melbourne to service her clients.

She also makes fascinators, hair accessories, jewellery,
handbags, and sells haberdashery.

Julie also takes milliner classes.
Her shop and gallery at the Jam Factory in Seppeltsfield is
an aladdin's cave of beauty. You can find her
online at juliefleming.com.au or at her blog #julieflemingmelbourne.blogspot.com

the Jam Factory #Barossa #art #crafts #Jamfactory #seppeltsfield

The newest tenant in the Seppeltsfield village in the Barossa
Valley is the Jam Factory.

Not only does it have a beautiful gallery and shop, but you can
see craftspeople working on their creations under the same roof.

The Jam Factory at Seppeltsfield is home to a range of craftspeople
making anything from ceramics, jewellery, glassware, leather, furniture,
scarves, shoes, hats and even knifes.

Founded over 40 years ago in Adelaide, the Jam Factory still has its
main workshops, studios, galleries and shops in Adelaide, but the
Seppeltsfield branch in the Barossa is a great addition.

Tomorrow I will feature the beautiful work of
Jam Factory milliner in residence at Seppeltsfield,

#Fino's #Seppeltsfield "Barossa Valley #Adelaide #Australia

Having the luxury of a day in the Barossa we chose to eat at
the newest addition to the Seppeltsfield village, Fino.

You'll find Fino in the old Seppeltsfield bottling hall.

Fino also has outdoor seating.  It was such a lovely day
we sat outside under the signature date palms.

Potatoes roasted in duck fat.

Broccoli and Kale

Schu Am Berkshire Pork Chop, Haricot beans, celeriac
and horseradish. Very good.

Limestone Coast Black Angus Scotch Fillet, anchovy butter
and charred cos. Delicious. The meat was so tender.

The Restaurant tries to source most of its produce locally from the Barossa.
Even its plates, knifes and tables were made next door at the Jam Factory.
A nice touch.
